Approach

Musa use various trauma-informed, cognitive-behavioral techniques to get the client into the habit of reflecting on their choices. I often draw from attachment theory as part of an ongoing process of identifying the origin of current behavioral patterns, what need was trying to get met, better understanding why that need was not satisfied when required to be most, and what you can do to help meet those needs. Addiction is often an attempt to self-soothe the pain that comes with unmet needs. We aim to increase our ability to act in ways most suitable to their growth and fulfillment. During sessions, expect to:

  • Talk through the issues that brought you to therapy
  • Listen to your own self-talk
  • Reflect on the past and prepare for the future
  • Make connections between current behaviors and broader patterns
  • Discuss and accept the anxiety that comes with change
  • Practice noticing the positive aspects of life
  • Take action and analyze results
  • Define your values and identity
  • Focus on your relationships
  • Make authentic choices
  • Gain self-awareness and flexibility

The Safe Space offers a unique perspective to psychotherapy in that approach is specific to the reality of the client instead of a theory. You are here because you have reached an impasse and know that SOMETHING has to change, but still figuring out what that something is. Let us start with a 10-minute conversation.

Our goal is for you to look at therapy as an opportunity to heal so you can live life on your terms. To heal, we must be willing to change. To change, we must be ready to take responsibility for our choices.

For more than 8 years, I have been able to help clients deal with the following:

We are burdened with the freedom to choose how we respond to life's struggles.

Musa's approach is to address the emotional issues we face through full engagement, and also take responsibility for the decisions that contributed to the development of those issues. Our goal will be to come to terms with the anxiety that comes with that responsibility and aim to shift our perspective to one more suitable for our growth.
